Seven pages, folio, folded, minor damage with no loss of text, good condition. Baker Gabb, member of Welsh landowning family, presumably in his role of solicitor acting for the Harington Family, giving a detailed record of financial activity with Welsh property, mainly involving the "Rents of Cadvor", giving details of income from tenants, crops, stock, etc. and outgoings, concluding with the balance due to Sir John Harington (£2989.19.1). Also the Royal Oak, Abergavenny. With 10 further MS items including: A.

On one side of 11 x 15 cm slip of paper. On aged paper, heavily worn at head and at one edge, with some loss of text. The damage has been skilfully repaired. Reads: 'Jan. 17. 1744/5 eived then of <...>ackin Nilliam <...>ynn Bannet the following MS viz. Dares Phrygius & Tyssillons History of the Britions in Welsh, Chronica Britonum in Welsh, & the chartulary of the Abbey de Bello in Latin | which I promise to restore on demand. Witness my hand | Tho: Carte'.

All items in good condition. The photographs range in size from 21.5 x 14.5 cm. to 18.5 x 16.5 cm., and show Knight at work on the sculpture, with her husband Mark Churchill present in one. Thuillier's text (1p., 12mo) reads: 'Geraldine Knight seen with her giant 10 ft. fibreglass and resin (GRP) Hinds Head which has been commissioned by Whitbreads for their new Brewery at Magor near Newport. The work has taken her a year to complete. She lives and works in a converted Bakery at Woodborough in Wiltshire where she has 4 large studios.

On 12.5 x 9 cm piece of cream paper. In good condition, with light signs of age. Boldly written and underlined, at the top of the page, reading 'Eric Linklater.' No other writing on either side of the leaf.

On one side of an 11.5 x 15 cm piece of paper. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, but trimmed at foot, cropping the lower part of signature and year. He is 'concern'd to hear' of his brother's illness, and would have visited him, had he not himself been labouring under a 'fit of ye cold since my retun to ye Country'. He intends to go to Llanfochell at the end of the week, and to send one of his curates to 'make Good yr. service I intended you in my own person'.

15 + [1]pp., 12mo. Unbound pamphlet. In fair condition, lightly aged, with strip of adhesive tape on spine. 'Corrected Copy' in manuscript at head of title-page, and minor manuscript emendation on p.13. Address made at the Society's inaugural meeting, and ranging in topic from Carnarvon's ancient history to 'The Terrible Competition of the Age'. Scarce: no copy on COPAC.

xi + 41pp., 12mo. In good condition, lightly aged, in worn twentieth-century binding, with the bookplate of the City of Cardiff Public Libraries, but no library stamps or other indications. Two-page dedication to 'Edward [ Copleston ], Bishop of Llandaff', followed by seven-page preface. The memoir is contained in letters to 'Miss B.' In 1831 Gabb writes of a visit to Davies: 'He s still the same. Keeping the noiseless tenor of his way on his favourite hill.

One page, 8vo, good condition. "Repeated disappointment has for 3 weeks past attended the several journies [sic] from this country house to our Post Town some 4 miles off.- I hoped [?] I was promised truly, sheets shd be sent out of London on Wednesdays & Saturdays, nothing since ye fifth sheet has reached me! - altho' even yt teaches me that it is needful for me to receive specimen sheets; for a Table of errors to be formed for ye end of ye work; seeing that on ye last sheet arrived hither, Mat.19.4. Creater ([e" underlined] instead of Creator ["or" double underlining].

The game was played on 21 November 1934 at Pittodrie, Scotland winning 3-2. 2pp., 12mo. on two leaves removed from an autograph album. Each team's autographs on a separate page. Both letters in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. ONE: 12 November 1931. 2pp., 12mo. Written lengthwise. He heard from 'Father Bone last night that the Epstein party was over & I had not attended it as I promised to. I hadn't got a ticket so I forgot the date'. TWO: 14 April [no year]. 1p., 12mo. Written lengthwise.He is sending him a private view ticket for the Royal Academy, 'where you will have an opportunity to see the portrait of Sir Frederick Richmond that you so kindly interested yourself in'.

One page, 8vo, fold mark, small closed tears on fold, good condition, pencilled ticks (by Stokes?). "I am in bed, now reading a bit of Ben Johnson [sic] now a bit of 'Moll Flanders", now a bit of [?] & now a bit of Marie Corelli." He anticipates when he'll next be in the "office". New paragrph, "Will you and Mr Moore go through that basket of mine marked "Current" & send off for setting that wghich appeals to you. There is an article on Arthur Machen, which should be cut [...].

Totalling 10pp., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly aged paper. ONE: 14 September 1899. 4pp., 12mo. He was pleased to receive Hodson's letter from Southwold, and reports on the 'Abraham sale', and 'talk of a tram line being made to Mochras' ('all fudge & nonsense').

The present volume provides a fascinating sidelight into the operations of an archetypal Working Men's Club (Labour leader Ed Milliband was recently described as being 'more at home in Primrose Hill than Kenfig Hill') at what was perhaps the high point of such an institution, covering the period from just before the Great War to the end of the Depression of the 1930s. The accounts relate to two locations: the Cefn Institute and the Talbot Miners' Welfare Institute. The latter was founded in 1911 after a gift from the Talbot family, and closed in 1959.

Copy agreement: 2pp., 4to. Letter: 1p., 4to. The two on a single bifolium, with the agreement on both sides of the first leaf and the letter on the recto of the second. The reverse of the second leaf is addressed, with Penny Red stamp and Newport and Tredegar postmarks, to 'Henry Mostyn Esq | Solr | Usk'. In good condition, lightly aged and worn.

The inscription is on the half-title leaf of Warren's anonymous 'A Letter to the Queen on a Late Court Martial' (1850). In fair condition on aged paper, with traces of previous mount adhering to the reverse. It reads: 'Rev. Dr. Warren | With his Son's love. | Samuel Warren. | 12th. Jany 1850.'

The lecture, which is unpublished, is an interesting personal statement by a neglected Victorian painter who died tragically young. (A rather impressive example of his work, in Turneresque style, titled 'The Heart of the Hills', is in the Maidstone Museum.) The lecture is 30pp., 8vo, in a ruled notebook with embossed black wraps. In good condition, on aged paper with some wear and discoloration. Ownership inscription of 'W. G. Shrubsole | Bangor Decr. 1886' inside the front wrap. The first page is headed 'The Ideal in Art. | by W. G. Shrubsole Dec.

1p., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. He reports that he shared the 'bounty' of the recipient's 'delicious present' with his brother, who has been 'confined to the house for a month'. He reports that 'Mr Watts and family are well', and hopes that 'Mr Stack is so'.

Offprint of long, learned and critical review by JW of Harriet Beecher Stowe's 'Uncle Tom's Cabin', 'From the Star of Gwent of 6th November, 1852.' 1p., folio. In three columns of small type. One autograph correction. Ascription at head: 'By Jane Williams ... Edwd. Williams'. Docketed on reverse 'Uncle Tom's Cabin | Review of by JW'. She starts off by saying that a reviewer would normally give information about the book as if the reader is unfamiliar, but "every one" is reading it.

Four pages, bifolium, folio, 1" tears on fold marks, staining, loss of small amount of margin, text complete and clear. It includes: a statement of the Company's affairs "to the 27th of April, 1825 (expenditure, payments, debts, salaries etc.); "Abstract Account of Tonnage and Rent [...]" (Timber, lead, iron etc). Submitted by B.A. Griffith, and concluded by the "Orders" (dividend, etc.). Final page has manuscript address to "Richard Griffith Esq. M.D. | Cardiff."

1p., 4to. Bifolium. Addressed, with broken seal in red wax, on reverse of second leaf to 'Sir Foster Cunliffe Bar - | Acton | Wrexham'. Chester postmark dated 27 April [1821?]. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. He is enclosing 'the Blackburnian poem which arrived this morning by the Carrier -' (the poem is not present). The second paragraph reads: 'Classical Rats are voracious - they read with a vengeance - yet I hope that the breach is not beyond the powers of reparation'. The Times, 4 August 1865, carried a report of the inauguration on the previous day at Tenby of the 'Welsh Memorial to the Late Prince Consort', in the presence of Prince Albert's son Arthur, Duke of Connaught. The present item carries, without comment, the main speech at a banquet on the occasion, in the Assembly Room of the Gate House Hotel, by the man considered by the young John Stuart Mill as the best orator he had ever heard. 3pp., 4to. Paginated [1]-3. Bifolium. On laid paper with Joynson watermark dated 1863. In fair condition, on aged paper, creased and discoloured at the foot.

On 8.5 x 11 cm piece of paper, cut from the bottom of a letter. In good condition, lightly-aged. Entirely in German's hand. The side of the letter with the signature reads: '[...] write you, & I hope we may be able to arrange a meeting. | Yours sincerely | Edward German'. The other side reads: '[...] you at Sidcup with the Georges many years ago. | I should be very pleased to meet you again, but at present I seem to be fully occupied [...]'.

On one side of a 16 x 20 cm piece of light-green paper, removed from an album. In good condition, lightly-aged. Thalben-Ball's signature is the upper of the two, and reads 'To | [bar of music in 3/4 time] | G. G. Thalben-Ball | 22. v. 41'. Parry's signatuer is towards the centre of the page, and simply reads 'Parry Jones.' From album which also contained the signatures of many performers at the Denbigh Eisteddford in 1939.

3pp., 12mo. 52 lines. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. He thanks him for sending for his 'inspection the old watch which is a nice specimen', but would have been of more interest had it been left in its original condition'. He describes the alterations, and his reasons for believing that they were 'done by a French man, & I should think prior to the time of your late Brother'. Morgan possesses a watch by Sayller, and he 'once saw an extremely curious & beautiful clock of his in a case of silver'.

Programme: 12mo, 4 pp. Bifolium. Printed in green on orange paper. Text clear and complete. On lightly-aged paper with slight wear to extremities. Dargavel's signature is in pencil in the top left-hand corner of the second page: 'Best Wishes, | Bruce Dargavel'.

The 12mo letter has been cut into two sections, both laid down on a piece of mustard paper, with typed caption. Good, on lightly-aged paper. The body of the letter is on a piece of paper roughly 11 cm square. Six lines of text, enclosing 'autograph & quotation' (not present), and apologising for having 'no photo available'. 'Glad you enjoy my books, & thanks for your good wishes'. The smaller piece, with letterhead and Styles's dating, is roughly 8.5 x 3.5 cm.

One page, 8vo, total 40 lines, heavily stained (from being laid down in album, text clear and complete).
