On reverse of title: 'This booklet is produced in accordance with Paper Control regulations and is therefore limited in size and scope | It is publication number one of the Imprint Society and was first issued in August 1944'. The pamphlet begins: 'The idea that led to the Imprint Society being formed was conceived when two compositors, working in Johannesburg in 1939, realized that most of the printed matter produced in South Africa was ugly and uninspired, and that nothing was being done to remedy this.

The full title reads: 'London Cries: With Six Charming Children printed direct from stippled plates in the Bartolozzi style, and duplicated in red and brown, and about forty other illustrations including ten of Rowlandson's humorous subjects in facsimile, and tinted; examples by George Cruikshank, Joseph Crawhall, &c., &c. The manuscript is closely-written over 80pp., 4to, in green cloth, and is interleaved with the twenty leaves of Peet's printed bibliography from the 1910 edition of Mumby's book (paginated 431-470), to which it does not correspond, with only a small amount of the information in the manuscript also in Peet's bibliography. It contains a mass of material not present in Peet's bibliography, and has the main list followed by entries under the following headings: 'Booksellers' Portraits', 'Tokens', 'Petitions & Memorials', 'Charities', 'Magazine Articles', 'Book Labels' and 'Copyright'.

View of One Bay of Aisle' loosely inserted; and full-page 'SPECIMEN PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHIC PLATE' of the Cathedral in 'CROSS SECTION LOOKING EAST'. Finely printed, with the title in red and black, on Alton Mill wove paper. 4to order form tipped in to margin of third page. The third page of gives the contents and list of plates (eight in collotype and twenty-four in photo-lithography), as well as a long 'LIST OF PRELIMINARY SUBSCRIBERS'. The last page carries a 'SPECIMEN PAGE OF TEXT'.

8vo: 53 pp. In modern green wraps with white paper label. Text clear and complete. On aged, stained paper with slight wear to extremities. Pencil addition of one name. One page 'Advertisement', dated August 1844, by 'W. D. N.' (i.e. William Dummer Northend), and four-page anonymous 'Preface', giving a history of the Academy. 22-line newspaper cutting loosely inserted, headed 'Dummer Academy', and with dates March and April 1845 on reverse. Excessively scarce. According to WorldCat no copy in America, and the only copy on COPAC at the British Library.

Four leaves. Eight unpaginated pages. 16mo. Nine and a half centimeters by twelve and a half centimeters. Stitching thread untied. Evan Gill 392 describes a copy dated 1927, but makes no mention of an undated issue. Engraving of aspidistra in vase on table before curtains on cover-title. Engravings by Gill: initial G, verso of first leaf; Christ on cross, verso of second leaf; glue pot, recto of third leaf; domestic interior, verso of third leaf; printer's device, verso of last leaf. No copy currently on AddAll.

A scarce piece of Liverpool printing ephemera. Dimensions approximately 63 x 51 cm. Both sides printed in light blue. Text and illustrations complete. In need of expert cleaning and repair: grubby and stained, with chipping to extremities and some closed tears. At the head of the one side is the masthead of 'The Employment Exchange | Edited by Charles H. Megson' ('The only recognized medium for speedy Employment. Absolutely without rival.') with illustrations of figures at work.

12pp, small 4to. Disbound. In fair condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. In small type and double column. An item of surprising rarity considering its historical importance: no other copy traced, either on ESTC, WorldCat, COPAC or at the National Library of Ireland. Sandys, who has been described as 'the earliest engraver of any importance in Ireland', was also notable as the printer from 1705 of the 'Dublin Gazette'. The previous year he had published 'Articles of the Treaty of Union, agreed on by the Commissioners of both Kingdoms, on the 22d of July, 1706' (ESTC N471342).

1p., 4to. Nicely printed (by the Curwen Press?) on watermarked laid paper. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. A nice piece of First Edition Club ephemera. The year to which the circular relates is meant to be added in manuscript, but has not been. Begins: 'The Committee appointed to choose the Fifty Books of the Year for [blank] will be grateful if, at your early convenience, you will submit such of your publications as seem to you most likely to be selected. Elaborate pseudo-seventeenth-century design to title-page replicated on front cover. Five-page 'Promoter's Address'' to 'My Friend and Pitcher', signed in type by Sharman, followed by a page listing the five members of the 'Committee, 1874-5' (Julian Sharman; Henry S. Leigh; Bourchier F. Hawksley; Jas. J. Railston; F. W. Robinson), and five pages carrying the club's fourteen rules.

19 + [1]pp., 4to. Nicely-printed, and saddle-stitched and placed in grey paper wraps with tasteful white label on cover with title printed in red. Inscribed inside front cover 'For Desmond + Dorothy - | with love from | the Playwright | Christmas | 1971'. The playlet is an amusing representation of a single night at the 1946-1949 high point of excitement over the discovery of the Malahide Papers ('During three years the incidents described here were repeated several times a week.'), and features among others Isham himself, his cleaner 'Mrs.

29pp., 16mo. Nicely printed with nine plates. In brown card wraps, with the following on the cover: 'Mediaeval Pilgrims' Badges | Privately printed opuscula issued to members of ye Sette of Odd Volumes | No. XC'. 'Imprimatur' preceding title, signed by 'Frederick Keal' and 'Tancred Borenius', states that this is copy 11 of 199. Good copy, in lightly-worn wraps. Uncommon.

Second page reads: 'NOTE. | Clients wishing to make use of the volumes in this list, are requested to apply to the Sale-Room Clerk, to whom all books should be returned when finished with. | HODGSON & CO. | 115, Chancery Lane. | August, 1908.' The works are all in English and date from the late nineteenth century onwards. They range from 'Abbott (T. K.) Catalogue of Fifteenth-Century Books in the Library of Trinity College, Dublin 1905' to 'Wright (C. T. Hagberg) Catalogue of the London Library, St. James's Square 1903'.

With six plates: two collotypes (portraits of Edmund Hodgson and Henry Hill Hodgson) and four black and white photographs: 'Exterior of Premises, 115, Chancery Lane', 'The Auction Room', 'Compiling a Catalogue (First Floor Room)' and 'Unpacking a Library (Basement)'. Title-page in red and black. In fair condition, internally good, on aged and worn paper, lacking free endpapers. A characteristically-tasteful production by the Chiswick Press. Now scarce.

The three items in good condition, with light signs of age and wear. Booklet: [2] + iv + 29 + [2]pp., 8vo. With fold-out table at front. Nicely printed in green paper wraps with white label printed in red and black. Pp.27-47 carry 'A Catalogue of the Coloured Books for Children; Past and Present.' The last eleven pages contain a 'Bibliography of Odd Volumes' and 'List of Members'. Five copies on COPAC.

Wodehouse is named as author on front cover, but not on title-page. Laid out in the form of a fourteen-page catechism of 28 points, followed by 'Notes and Illustrations from Various Writers'. Pertinent as ever, in its criticism of 'excessive inequality in the partition of wealth'. COPAC only lists three copies of the first edition of 1878. Of the eight copies of the second 1884 edition on COPAC, six are listed as being printed by 'F.

Printed in black ink on one side of a piece of 18 x 11 cm piece of laid paper. Dimensions of image 15.5 x 10 cm. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. The image forms the upper part of the engraving, within a decorative border, with the caption, covering eleven lines, as the lower part, within its own lapidary border. The image is, as the caption explains, from 'a curious M.S. in the Archbishop's Library at Lambeth'.

The full title reads: 'The Spirit of the Doctor; comprising Many Interesting Poems; selected from the original manuscript of the Late Mr. James Watson, Formerly Librarian of the Portico, in Manchester; and commonly called Doctor Watson. Inscribed in a small calligraphic hand at foot of front cover to 'DE fr. WGT [W G Thomson?] xi.48'. A well-printed item, with two pages carrying photographs of Goudy, a six-page 'Appreciation', two pages of 'Goudy Monotype Faces', and the final page carrying an 'appreciation' of Goudy by Bruce Rogers, ending 'He worked to the last, and he died at the zenith of his powers.

40pp., 12mo. Disbound and without wraps. On aged and lightly damp-stained paper. The report begins (p.5): 'The Object of the Liverpool Anti-Monopoly Association, as expressed in its constitution, is "The annihilation of all Monopolies in Trade and Commerce, and especially the total and immediate Repeal of the Bread and Provision Taxes.' Pp.36-37 carry, in small print, the 'List of Members for 1842'; the 'Council for 1843', with 'THOMAS THORNELY, Esq., M.P.' as president, is on p.3.

The pamphlet is anonymous, but carries the following inscription in pencil on the half-title: 'hommage | a Mademoiselle Bergeret | Artiste, de la part de l'Auteur. | Voïart'. The only copies on COPAC at the V & A, and the British Library. This copy lacks the lithographed frontispiece portrait of Prud'hon, by Voïart, present in the copy in the Bibliothèque Nationale, which is ascribed to the wife, whereas other authorities ascribe the work to the husband.

4pp., 12mo. Bifolium on pink paper. In fair condition, lightly-aged, with minor evidence of removal from stub. A poem of 13 irregular stanzas. Begins: 'When some great warrior returns | Triumphant to his native land, | The heart of all the nation burns | To welcome him.

Printed in black ink on one side of a 23.5 x 17.5 cm piece of pink silk. An interesting piece of American nineteenth-century printing, with only the printer's details giving a clue to the occasion of the dinner. Within a decorative border, and with Maleville's slug in bottom left-hand corner. A sumptuous 'service à la russe', with potages, hors d'oeuvre, poisson, relevé, entrées roti, entremets and dessert.
