The second leaf of a bifolum, the first presumably carrying the commencement of the letter. The present fragment, in a good firm hand, reads: 'in the way he desires but if you can do so, you will not only be assisting a most deserving young man, but I shall regard it as a personal kindness. / I am, my dear Cummings, / Yours very cordially, / Ebenezer Prout. / Dr. W. H. Cummings.'

On aged and worn paper, with the reverse of the second leaf laid down on cut-down remains of leaf of autograph album, with a number of autographs on slips laid down on the reverse, including that of Charles Hallé, cut from a letter. Prout’s letter is signed ‘Ebenezer Prout’, but the recipient is not named.

4pp, 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged, with labels from mount adhering. Folded twice. The last four lines of the letter, and the name of the recipient (a fellow-practioner), have been deleted, and a newspaper notice of Prout's death has been laid down over this. An interesting letter, casting light on medical consultation and co-operation in Early Victorian London. The letter begins: 'Sir, | Your patient Mr Brown, in the absence of Dr Hodgkin, [the celebrated pathologist Thomas Hodgkin] authorised me to open your letter to Dr. H. containing some particulars of Mr B's case.

On both sides of a rectangular (5.5 x 16.5 cm) strip cut from letter. In fair condition, with light signs of age and wear. Recto: '4 Brixton place | Brixton Surry [sic] | Janry: 12th. 1833 | Sir | M Mackenzie has conveyed to me y polite offier of allowing a few prospectus of my [...]'. Verso: 'to Dr. Tournay by my friend Dr Burney, but as your house is the rendezvous of all the learned & the rich in Oxford, perhaps it is unnecessary for me to solicit the onor of Dr Tournay's influence. | I remain, | [...]'.

On a piece of paper 20 x 22.5 cm, with the dimensions of the image 16.5 x 22 cm. Caption at foot: 'A Drawing on Paper transferred on Stone', with 'Drawn by S. Prout' beneath the bottom left-hand corner of the image. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, with the image clean, and foxing to the caption strip at the foot. Laid down on a leaf removed from an album. The original print, from the English edition of Senefelder's book, published by Ackermann in 1819, and not the version reprinted in 'Lithography and Lithographers' by E. R. and J. Pennell (London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1915).
