Reads: 'Sir, | In your paper of yesterday I have been reported as having, at Lambeth-street Police-office, mentioned the “German Society”; and as no such Society is in existence, I beg leave to say that it should be “the Society of Friends of Foreigners in Distress.” | By insertion of those lines you will greatly oblige, | Sir, | Louis Capel, | Minister of the German Lutheran Church in Little Alie-street'. Cappel hailed from Worms and was of Huguenot descent. He was pastor of St George's from 1843 to 1882.

12mo: 12 pp. Stitched and unbound. Fair, on lightly-aged paper with slight wear to extremities. Numbered 1355 at foot of first page. On first page 9 x 7 cm engraving of the monk Luther reading in a library. Beneath the title the author is described as 'James Macaulay, Esq., M.A., M.D., Author of "Luther Anecdotes," [published c.1883] etc. etc.' Curiously scarce considering the publishers: no copy in the British Library or on COPAC.
