Interesting items, casting light on the life of an Australian rural doctor of the Victorian period. A selection of Bartlett’s memoirs was published under the title ‘Bush Doctor’, edited by Jane Caiger-Smith and Michael C Bartlett, in 2011. There is an good illustrated article on him and his family (‘A Classic Bush Doctor’) in ‘Australian Rural Doctor’, June 2013. Both letters are addressed to ‘Dear Mr. D’Eath’ and signed ‘Felix P. Bartlett’.

Begins: 'Mr. Caddy the Bearer of this letter is a Candidate for the vacant Coronership in the Northern district of our County by the very melancholy Death of Mr Kingdom - | Mr Caddy has applied to me for his Character, who I have known for a great many Years'.

Two volumes, original hf.lea, worn, one with spine detached, with label "Letter Book" (both volumes) and "CEC | 2" [Charles E. Cox] and "CEC | 4". Vol. 2 has 1006 leaves, tissue paper, recto only used (last leaf numbers filled in by hand) all used, and Vol.4 has 1000 leaves (again recto only used), only 660 leaves used, first page missing, others damaged, tissue paper, indicating a cessation of activity whatever the cause - death?).

Circular letter, printed in facsimile of Wellington's handwriting; dated, addressed, and with the gaps filled in in Wellington's hand to Robert Aberdein.

12mo, 3 pp. Good. Folded twice and with the blank verso of the second leaf of the bifolium a little grubby. A formal letter in the third person, declining to present a petition to the House of Lords, on the grounds that 'The Duke has no relation whatever with [Honiton]'. The date, and the words 'Mr Aberdein', 'Honiton', ', which he retains' and 'Robert Aberdein Esq' are in Wellington's hand.
