NEWFOUNDLAND

1p, 4to. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. Folded twice. Bold signature in light-blue ink. He has not forgotten the 'very pleasant meeting' he had with Hills and her husband when she was on a trip to Newfoundland, and will be 'very pleased to accept your kind invitation for luncheon on the 5th November, and say a few words in connection with the work ahead for women in Empire Citizenship'. He assumes that the invitation extends to his wife.

Printed on one side of a 21 x 9 cm slip of watermarked laid paper. Aged and creased. Headed: 'Dedicated | to | Samuel Mucklebackit, Esq., | (Otherwise James Lumsden, of 34 Royal Park Terrace, Edinburgh), | by | Sir Robert Thorburn, K.C.M.G., | Ex-Premier of Newfoundland, | From | “Somewhere far abroad, where sailors gang to fish for cod.”' Place and date at bottom left.

Pp.[1]-126[2], 8vo, sewn as issued, probably missing paper wraps, firat and last pages sl. chipped, with (small) corner of first page absent,contents good, text inclusive of title and list of other Church in the Colonies and "Missions" books available from the SPCK. Inscribed on title by former owner, "M.F. Baker | Feb. 4th 1853". Scarce: apparently 3 British Libraries have a copy (WorldCat), no foreign.

4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper. Addressed to an unnamed woman ('My dear Madam'). On embossed letterhead. Feild, the subject of the letter, is not named. Kelly begins by acknowledging the recipient's letter, sent through 'Mrs Feild', before continuing: 'Some years have now elapsed since I had the pleasure of meeting & being introduced to you at the meeting which the Master of Clare [i.e. the Cambridge college] was kind enough to allow me to address in the Combination Room of my old College.

Folio, 44 pp. Followed by twelve tables, eleven of them fold-out, and with pp.27-44 also consisting of tables. Stitched. In original blue printed wraps. Text and tables clear and complete. Internally good, on lightly-aged paper. In worn and chipped wraps. Title-page carries printed shelf-mark and stamp of the Bibliotheque du Palais de la Paix.
