The first three items are 4to, with the first two of two pages and the last of one page, all with a brown border. The fourth item is 12mo, 1 p. The quarto items have some creasing and discoloration to the extremities, and a few closed tears. The 12mo item is good. Text of all four letters clear and entire. The correspondence concerns Crouch's application for membership. He gives the names of individuals who 'have signified their willingness to second' Crouch: Sir William Wayland, M.P. ('a Fellow member of the Royal Enterprise Society'), Sir Charles Bressey, 'Major Longden who attends to the Art Interests of the British Council' and Athol Robertson ('late M.P for Finchley, London Manager to Messs. W. N. Sharpe, Ltd. of Bradford'). The second letter is accompanied by a postcard reproducing Crouch's 'pen painting of the Coronation Chair' in Westminster Abbey, signed by Crouch in pencil. If elected Crouch offers to prepare 'a "hand-touched" print and present it to the Royal Society at such time as you may consider desirable'. Also present a small piece of paper bearing an eleven-line ink note, signed 'E. S.', describing Crouch as 'quite a suitable person - financially & otherwise' for election to the Society.
