That the piece is a spoof is indicated by the printers slug, in the bottom right-hand corner: '[Spottisnotwood & Co, Printers, London.', the reference being to the leading London printers Spottiswoode & Co. Begins 'In the Press, and shortly will be published, | POPULAR CHARACTERS | OF | WORTHING: | BEING THE LIVES OF THE EMINENT INDIVIDUALS | COMPRISING | The Local Branch of "The Female | Virture Protection Society." | The importance of the subject renders it necessary that every incident in the lives of these truly illustrious personages should be handed down to posterity. The Editors feel it their bounden duty to record all facts connected with the birth, parentage and adventures of each eminent individual.'
