According to his entry in the Oxford DNB, Brandram - founder with Frank Talfourd of the Oxford Dramatic Society - 'was remembered as the most distinguished Shakespearian reciter of the period, influencing the productions of William Poel, and through his popular recitations familiarized middle-class families with Shakespeare'. 2pp., 12mo. Divided into three sections: 'School Architecture', 'School Economy and Discipline' and 'Selections for public Recitation in Schools'. Two-page appendix: 'New Brick School House at Simcoe, County of Norfolk'. In original printed wraps of cloth backed with card. In fair condition, on aged paper, in heavily worn wraps. The volume contains an interesting selection of stamps and labels.

The front page carries the printer's slug, and gives the price of $6 for 'Course Tickets', 'For sale at the houses where the readings are to be given, on and after FEBRUARY 19th.' The middle two pages give the addresses, with owner's names, of the houses at which the six readings are to take place.
