See his entry in the Oxford DNB. The items are unrelated. Both are in good condition, lightly aged, and each folded once for postage. LETTER: 2pp, 12mo. On grey paper. Addressed to ‘The London Correspondent of the Birmingham Daily Post’ and signed ‘George Henschel’. Displaying some degree of bitterness, Henschel writes: ‘Dear Sir / I hope you will not mind my thanking you for your exceedingly kind appreciation of my work in today’s issue which needless to say has given me the keenest gratification, especially since it was to the Birmingham Festival Authorities that I offered my Requiem twice for performance and was refused.’ PRINTED CIRCULAR: 1p, 12mo. Beneath his address the printed notice reads: ‘You were among those good enough to subscribe their names to the beautiful address presented to me on my 80th birthday. / Nothing could have touched me more or given me greater pleasure than to be remembered on that occasion by so many members of the musical profession. / Pray accept my heartfelt thanks for having thus honoured me.’ Henschel has added in autograph the salutation ‘Dear Marion M Scott’ and valediction ‘Very sincerely yours / George Henschel / Feb 27 / 1930’.
