Schwarzkopf declines to participate in what he describes as Pitt's 'momentous undertaking', explaining: 'To write such a piece and do so properly requires considerable time. The press of my current schedule, which is normally booked many months in advance, simply does not allow me the luxury to devote the time necessary.' He concludes by explaining that he will also 'be involved with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of D-Day [...] working with CBS to produce two major special broadcasts both prior to and on that day'.
