The report is 3pp., 4to, on a bifolium. Signed on behalf of the firm: 'Hoping that this information of our proceedings will be satisfactory to you | We remain | Gentlemen | Your Obedt Servants | Bathe & Kindon'. The letter begins: 'Gentlemen - | A Meeting of the London Floor Cloth Manufacturers, was held yesterday - & the result was, a rise of 2d. pr Sq: Yard, on their respective prices - this was carried, after considerable discussion, whether the rise should be 2d or 3d - but the majority decided for the 2d - at present'. The report proceeds with discussions of 'varying the price for the different colours (oaks &c & Persias)', 'the largest houses', 'the practice of charging the same for all Colours', 'the distinction between high & low coloured patterns', 'the absurd practise [sic] of charging all alike' (described as 'a premium to the retailers upon the sale of high colours'), 'The 3d Extra for Cuts' ('to be charged for all'). According to the report: 'A very friendly feeling pervaded the Meeting'. It concludes: 'Another point was not brought forward at this Meeting, but we ascertained that no London house pays the carriage of Goods - Your liberality in this respect, has caused a strong push by some of the large houses in the North, but we have resisted it - in fact we cannot afford to do it -'. The closely-written draft reply covers the whole of the verso of the first leaf. The reply includes the comment: 'We are pleased also to hear that the principles of a distinction between patterns with few & many Colors and an extra 3d. for Cuts are aproved of - they are both so manifestly reasonable that the public will readily fall in with them'. The reply also discusses 'the payment of Carriage' to 'London - Birmingham or Liverpool'. The partnership of Kindon, Powell & Co, 'floor cloth and table cover manufacturers', was dissolved in 1881.
