Two pages, 4to, bifolium, good condition. He has waited for the appearance of the "London Gazette" to make his approach [presumably the announcement that Hardy was to be Governor of Greenwich Hospital] , and "not take the liberty of waiting upon you at the Admiralty". But he now takkes the opportiunity to "address you with a Repetition of the Request that I had made to your predecessor at Greenwich Hospital [ Sir Richard Keats ] to allow me to solicit your Vote for a particualr worldy young Friend of Mine now a Student at Cambridge to succeed in his Election for a Tancred Divinity Studentship when that event shall occur. | I must request your Forgiveness for such an intrusion, & the only Excuse I can offer is my anxiety for the Success of my young Friend Mr H. Scarth to the appointment. [...]". The letter has been docketed by Hardy, "No. 8 | Mr Scarth | Divinity", and he has made a note (and other minimal scrawlings on the first page, top left corner, "An[swere]d: 14th could not comply".
