The obituary of the recipient Andrew Block (1892-1987) in ‘The Private Library’ was subtitled ‘the doyen of booksellers’; his business was established in 1911. 1p, 4to. In poor condition, aged and worn. Folded three times. Begins: ‘Dear Andrew, / It is with VERY GREAT PLEASURE that I have to advise you that at the COUNCIL MEETING held on Wednesday 9th December 1981 it was agreed that you be awarded the degree of Associate of THE INNER MAGIC CIRCLE with SILVER STAR.’ He discusses arrangements for receipt of the diploma, either by post or in person, and ends: ‘With every GOOD WISH for the NEW YEAR. I have missed your smiling face in the Club Room, hope you are looking after yourself.’
