Two pages, cr. 8vo, torn from pad so rough at top, fold marks, good condition, occasionally difficult to read. "I have tried over and over again to get this letter written. Of course I want to thanks you for my place in "The Golden Hind" and to say how proud I am to be there. And the other reading is delightful - poetry and prose together make a most distinguished number. | I am very glad to see John Austen among the artists. Roger Ingpen showed me the Hamlet [underlined] illustrations some time ago, and I was enchanted with them [...] I can see and honour his power, and the frequent glory of his line; but the more I do, the more I wish he'd use them to some other end than those most [?] great dirty-looking women's bodies. I never saw anything less comprehensible, and less desired of me to be comprehensible, than the drawing which comes above the second page of my story. But it gives me no pleasure to say this or to think it; and so I'll say no more, &except to wish you every sort of [?] with the magazine and all the other [?] which I see you have {?]. My book will be in January I believe - with Constable. [...]"
