A scarce item; the only copy on COPAC at the V & A Library, and its presence is explained below. A duplicated stapled typescript, but quite attractive nevertheless. [2] + 14pp, 4to, on eight leaves. The front cover is printed in red and black, the rest in black. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. At the centre of the cover is a monogram printed in red, appearing to be made up of the letters H, P and L. The number ‘2245’ is written in ink on the front cover. A well-written overview. The first section, ‘Children’s books of yesterday’ (pp.1-8) comments on 67 examples; the second, ‘Contemporary book illustration for children’ (pp.9-12), describes a part of the exhibition drawing heavily on items ‘lent by the Circulation Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum and is almost certainly the first collection of its kind to be seen in this country’, it includes a list of items 68-112; the third section, ‘Special displays of books for children’ (p.13), describes five displays, two chosen by Naomi Lewis, one by Geoffrey Trease, and one by Lewis and Trease. On the back cover (p.14) is a ‘List of Lenders’ headed by Henry Brooke and Sir Vivian Henderson, and including E. V. Knox and Edgar Osborne.
