One page, 17 x 16cm, aged and stained, crude repair to damage (not affecting text), small hole losing a letter only, but text clear and complete as follows: The undersigned is able to inform you of something considerably to your advantage on receipt of five shillings for his trouble | respectfully | Joseph Ady | Accountant | No.11 | Circus | Minories. Then date as above followed by the statement No letter[s] received unless post paid. Note: He was at one time a hatter in London, but failing in that business he hit upon the device of raising funds by means of circular letters, promising, on the receipt of a suitable fee, to inform those whom he addressed of ?something to their advantage.? In numerous instances he evaded the law and baffled the magistrates and Post Office authorities. [Wikipedia; also DNB] SEE IMAGE>
