Small 4to, 4 pp. Disbound, and with neat strip of tape along margin of last page. Good, with neat vertical fold from placement in 8vo volume. A few contemporary pencil notes in margin, presumably by Gilbert Buchanan, from whose collection of pamphlets the item derives. Uncommon. Five copies on COPAC: Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Lambeth Palace and the British Library.

No prologue to our play? | Down with the curtain - let it down, I say; | Let me go forth - I must, I will have way!' It is preceded by title and 'Noise and disputing behind the Sccenes. - The Curtain begins to rise.

Pamphlet, sewn as issued, [16]pp., cr.8vo, some staining and aging fold marks, chipping, closed tear on first page, text complete. Ownership inscription, "R.L. Orlebar", member of the squirearchy. Obviously in a much expanded form, Mechi turned this material (14[2]pp.) into a full-scale book, published 1845 (London: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans.

On the inside of the back wrap is a manuscript list headed 'Memo from Mailing account Book', numbered 1 ('Mr Carlyle') to 12 ('Rev H. W. Beecher'). It would appear that the leaves of the two articles had been printed previously, and were newly bound up here with the preliminary matter. For example, 'by <?> the old cause' added to one ending 'a Country brought to Ruin, or in a fair way to it.'; 'in this world' added to one ending 'will never come to Light.'; 'in a publick manur' added to one ending 'the secret Treaty now concluded.'; also 'much adoe about nothin'. Scarce: all but a handful of the entries on COPAC are for facsimiles. No 'finis' at end, but complete according to COPAC entries.

Disbound, 27pp., cr. 8vo, plus one page of illustrations (four varieties of waterspouts (oceanic phenomenon like tornadoes), minor defects but mainly good condition. The text is mainly in Latin but one substantial footnote is a quotation from an English periodical, and the dedication and another substantial footnote are in Swedish. The footnotes reflect the paucity of material concerning this phenomenon, presumably not mentioning Benjamin Franklin's contribution to the study because it hadn't yet been published (?).
