The recipient is not named, but would appear to be a relation (sister?) of William Leigh Mellish (1813-1864), who would inherit Hodsock Priory in Nottinghamshire from his cousin Anne Chambers in the following year. The letter begins: 'Dear Madam, | I have to beg your acceptance of the Volume which accompanies this Note.
