8vo: 42 pp (paginated 131 to 172). Stitched pamphlet. In original printed wraps, with title and illustration. Two photographic illustrations in text and forty-eight numbered illustrations by Zaborowska. Good, on aged paper, with light notes in blue pencil on pp. 144 and 145. Blanchard explains that Quy, a doctor from Hanoi, came to Paris to further his medical studies. He had a position under Blanchard 'au Laboratoire de Parasitologie'. Blanchard was already aware of the existence 'd'amulettes metalliques, auxquelles le populiare attribue la faculté de chasser les mauvais esprits, d'écarter les maladies et les calamités, de rendre favorables les éléments et la divinité', and had seen examples in 'les riches collections de M. Henry Wellcome, à Londres'. Knowing of Blanchard's interest, Quy, on his return to China, secured at Tonkin the collection described here. Scarce: no copy at the British Library, and the only copy on COPAC in the Wellcome Library.
