Canon of Canterbury (1813-82) and author of a 'History of the Christian Church'. Four pages, 12mo. Good, but on discoloured paper, and with small glue stain (affecting one word of text) and strip of archival tape adhering to verso of second leaf. Docketed 'Cant' in red ink at head of recto of first leaf. An interesting letter, discussing day-to-day diocesan affairs. He doubts whether 'any one - at least, any private clergyman - in this diocese has watched the elections of proctors so closely as to be able to answer [his correspondent's] questions fully. Robertson will not attempt to answer, but notes that 'our electioins are altogether fairly & openly conducted. There does not, therefore, seem to be any need of circulating the paper of wh. you have sent me a copy'. Discusses the election of proctors in his own diocese ('At the last election, Dr. Mill was chosen from the archdeaconry of Maidstone, & Mr. Eden from that of Canterbury'), with personal details of the incumbents (one is 'very disabled by rheumatism, wh. has deprived him of the use of his limbs', and the other 'has unluckily got his name with the newspapers, through the unwisdom of his late curate'). Concludes 'This is a subject of considerable anxiety to me, & I must consult Mr. Jeffereys & others about it.' Signed 'J. C. Robertson'.
