1p, 12mo. In fair condition, lightly aged. Tipped-in onto a piece of paper cut from an album compiled by Lady Ann Cullum (1807-1875) of Hardwick House. Reads: 'Mr Babbage much regrets that he was unable to have the pleasure of waiting on Mr MacKinnon on Wednesday last.' Babbage's correspondence identifies the recipient as William Alexander Mackinnon (1789-1870), Member of Parliament for Rye, Fellow of the Royal Society and the Society of Antiquaries.
