For more information on Marshall Hall's illustrious career, see his entry in the Oxford DNB. Fifteen items, the collection in fair overall condition, lightly aged and worn. ONE: Ten original photographic portraits of Hall, ranging in size from 14 x 9 cm. (carte-de-visite by 'The Biograph Studio | 107 Regent St, W.') to 29 x 21 cm (on mount stamped '185 Piccadilly W1', the studio of Kohler & Sons). Eight of the ten are mounted on paper or card, with printed photographers' details, and three of these are signed (two photographs by Carl Vandyk, both signed in pencil by 'C. Vandyk'; and a photograph with the label of Bertram Park, 'Studio 43 Dover Street | Piccadilly, London', signed by the photographer in pencil). There are two portraits by 'Blake' (Jack Myer Blake) of New Bond Street, one of them in printed tissue cover (with duplicate in same); also one by Swaine of New Bond Street. Two unsigned and unmounted early photographs have been trimmed, presumably for placing in an album, and are in a poorer state than the other items, which are in fair condition, lightly aged and worn. Also present is a large (magazine?) reproduction of a photograph of hall. All items loosely inserted in a grey paper folder with stamp of 'C. Vandyk'. TWO: Two 4 x 7.5 cm. printed calling cards, laid out in the characteristic style of the period. Both in fair condition. The earlier reads: 'E. Marshall Hall. | St. John's Coll. Camb.' The later one reads: 'Mr. E. Marshall Hall. | Felder Lodge, | Worth, | Sandwich. | Garrick Club, W.C.' THREE: Printed horseracing betting book, with 'E. M. H.' stamped on the cover, and with one page carrying pencil notes by Hall. In blue watered silk covers, placed within a binding by Drew & Sons of Piccadilly Circus of black crushed morocco, with triangles of hallmarked silver decorating the edges of the covers. FOUR: Printed funeral service of 'Sir Edward Marshall-Hall, | Died 24th February, 1927, | Aged 68 years. | Service at | St. Marylebone Church, | Saturday, 26th February.' 4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In fair condition, lightly aged and creased. The second page carries the ninetieth psalm, the third the words of 'Lead, kindly light', the fourth an eight-line poem beginning 'A few more years shall roll, | A few more seasons come, | […]'. With newspaper cutting giving details of Hall's funeral.
