4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In acceptable condition, aged and somewhat grubby. He thanks him for sending his article in the 'Musical Gazette', and comments that it is 'certainly curious about the Purcell Catch & the coincidence of the four notes, but it is difficult to say whether it was done purposely or by accident'. He concurs with William Chappell regarding an earlier title to 'Thesaurus Musicus', 'for in the two copies in my possession (the absolute first & one twenty years later) also in another copy which belonged to Mr Taphouse there is a distinct mark on the title page which shows that the original title had been erased & the present one engraved in its place'. He continues with reference to the title 'Harmonia Anglicana', to a pamphlet issued by the London County Council, and to an article he has just written, which he will amend to give a reference to Maitland's piece in the American Magazine. He concludes: 'If you will re read my original note in The Minstrelsy of England re Oswald I think you [will] grant there is something in it!'
